About the Legislature
The Vermont Legislature is a special place. It is divided into a House
of Representatives with 150 members and a Senate with 30 members. Together
these 180 elected officials comprise the General Assembly, and with the
assistance of the Governor produce the laws that govern our state. The
Assembly meets in session in Montpelier from early January until business
concludes in April or May. The entire process is public, and residents
are always encouraged to visit the capital and see their legislature
in action. The legislature maintains an excellent web site that further
explains the process, and among other things, provides direct access
to all the legislation that has been proposed in past sessions.
